Brazil Held to Frustrating Draw by Costa Rica

Vinicius Jr. Denied Penalty in Tight Contest

Costa Rica Holds Firm in World Cup Clash

In a surprising upset, Brazil was held to a 0-0 draw by Costa Rica in their opening World Cup match. Despite controlling possession and creating numerous chances, Brazil was unable to find the back of the net.

The closest Brazil came to scoring was in the second half when Vinicius Jr. went down in the Costa Rica penalty area. However, the referee waved away his appeals for a spot-kick, much to the frustration of the Brazilian players.

The result leaves Brazil with work to do in Group E. They will need to beat Switzerland in their next match to ensure qualification for the knockout stages. Costa Rica, meanwhile, will be pleased with their point and will be looking to cause another upset when they face Germany.
